I got to have lunch with Barker at school today.
One week ago, a 4th grader from May Street Elementary
died after getting home from school (at home with family)
from a heart condition that she has had since birth.
The 4th grader's little sister is in Barker's 1st Grade class
and it has been a bit of an emotional week.
Yesterday, before school got out, the Principal made an announcement
to the students that if they wanted to honor Grendy, they
should wear blue or white on Friday as those were her
favorite colors. Parents were unaware of this request as no letter
was sent home to have the parents remind the children.
On his own this morning when Barker was getting dressed he said,
"I am going to wear a blue shirt for Grendy today - it was her
favorite color." When I arrived at the school for lunch,
the amount of blue and white was heart-melting
overwhelming! Just about every kiddo I saw,
without help from their parents mind you as we were unaware of the plan,
stood in solidarity today to honor their fellow student, Grendy.
It's a bit hard to see in these images because of winter
jackets, and I started to feel weird about snapping
so many pics of other peoples children, but let me tell you
it was indescribably amazing!
