snow removal for hire!

Barker got the chance of a lifetime as a 6 year old boy!
Our neighbor brought home his company Bobcat to
clean up the neighborhood and invited Barker along!
He was so excited. When Jared motioned for Barker to come
on up, he looked around like - 'Me...are you
pointing at me?!? I can come up there!?!'

lost count

Another snow day...no school due to an inch of ice
covering everything. The boys strapped on their football helmets
and made the best of it!

gaining stregnth

Both boys had a great jiu-jitsu practice today.
Each had several positive remarks from their instructor!
Kingston was able to get many of his partners 'down'  today.
It is amazing how, at such a young age, children are teachers!
This girl was a strong opponent for Kingston, but instead of just
throttling him, she showed him tips on his technique! He was able to
quickly apply the lesson she gave and use it on her...so awesome to watch
them interact as peers and as teacher/student with each other!!!

Here Kingston is partnered with one of his good buddies, Waylon.
I was afraid they wouldn't be able to spar with each other in fear
hurting their friend. But they were able to turn it 'on' and 'off'
without any hard feelings - so impressive for a 4 year old mind!

In this warm up, Barker (freshly 6) is packing around a nearly 8
year old! (the instructor followed behind as a safeguard in case
Barker lost his grip, but he never did!)

Around and around they go! The instructor told Barker
he was proud of him, and impressed with how quickly he
was picking things up.
They can't wait to get back in the gym next week!

Snow day #2

If the snow keeps coming down like this, we
won't be going back to school until March!
But, WEEEEEEEEEE, who cares!?!

Blanket fort

...for Spike.
They tried their darndest to make a fort between the couch
and ottoman. Apparently Spike was under the
impression it was for him! They would get everything just
right, then he would squeeze in and basically tear it
down as fast as they made it! Sure kept them busy for quite awhile.
And cracked themselves up the whole time!

Fire Escape Plan

We finally got Barker's Fire Safety poster back from
the Fire Department - this is what won him the trip to
school on the Fire Engine!
Our family 'Fire Escape Plan' is to leave our house
and go across the street to our neighbor's house.
Notice as the stick figure leaves our burning house he is scared/sad.
But as he crosses the street and makes it to the
neighbor's house he feels safe and happy!
(Also note-our house will turn blue & green if it catches fire!) ;)

jiu-jitsu

On a bit of a whim, we popped in on children's
jiu-jitsu practice and the boys were invited to
join in! The instructor, Alex, was extremely
welcoming and even had uniforms for them to wear!!

We were invited back for more 'trial' practices and if the boys
decide it's something they really want to do, there is room for them
to join in with the class that is already in session.
In this pic they are doing a warm-up skill that is
like a reverse sit-up performed with a buddy.
Barker is paired up with the kiddo in the black
uniform (right) and Kingston is paired up
with the instructor (left).
Both kiddos seemed pretty excited by the whole
experience - needless to say, we will be back for more!
